Martinez will not sell Al-Habsi

Roberto Martinez expects Ali Al-Habsi to still be a Wigan player in February despite reports linking the keeper with a move to Liverpool during the transfer window.



Al-Habsi has been an important player for the Latics in recent seasons and his impressive form has seen him linked with a move to a bigger club.



Reports on Wednesday claimed Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers had set his sights on signing the keeper in January, but Martinez has made it clear he will not be selling the player to the Reds or any other club.



“I don’t think there is any truth behind it. Any rumour that you can see with any of our players I see as a compliment. You don’t get links if you are not playing well,” Martinez commented.



“We are really focused on what we want to achieve and we are looking to improve the squad, window after window.



“We are relaxed about it. He is on a long-term contract and is an important player for us.



“The rumours are going to be there, as he is playing well, he has been impressive. He has developed as a player and is reaching good levels. But he has a long way to go.”

Wigan sign Mallorca defender Ramis

Wigan have signed Real Mallorca defender Ivan Ramis on a four year contract for an undisclosed fee.



Ramis had been linked with a host of Premier League clubs throughout the summer and it seemed he would join West Ham after Mallorca revealed a deal had been agreed with the Hammers last week.



But, Ramis completed a U-turn and has now joined The Latics despite saying last week that Wigan was “not the best offer for him.”



Wigan chairman Dave Whelan revealed that it was manager Roberto Martinez who managed to change Ramis's mind and convince him to sign for the club.



"It's down to the influence of Roberto because the player doesn't speak English and didn't want to go to West Ham who had already agreed a deal.



"But Roberto asked me to go out to Mallorca where I met their chairman and with the club in receivership, they accepted my offer and then I went to see the player," Whelan told Wigan today.

Wigan sign Fyvie

Roberto Martinez has made his first signing of the summer with the capture of Aberdeen midfielder Fraser Fyvie for an undisclosed fee.



The highly-rated 19-year-old, who made his Dons debut at the age of 16, joins on a three-year deal.



Martinez told Wigan's official website: "I'm excited because we are signing such a strong character and a great personality at just 19 years of age. "



He's got a tremendous future in his hands and we're all delighted that he's making such a big step forward in his career here at Wigan Athletic."
