Marseille Join Arsenal for Matias Suarez

Marseille have joined Arsenal as admirers of Anderlecht forward Matias Suarez.

The Gunners have been scouting the skilful Argentine and now representatives of Didier Deschamps’ French giants have been spotted checking up on Suarez too.

Marseille are keen to add to their attacking options in January and will also lose brothers Andre and Jordan Ayew to the African Cup of Nations next month.

That, combined with a lack of potency up front, has convinced Marseille to explore the option of adding Suarez – with scouts checking on the player a vital first step.

It emerged earlier this month that Arsene Wenger’s Arsenal are monitoring the 23-year-old, but the Frenchman has since admitted he is also pondering a loan move for former Gunners favourite Thierry Henry, as he seeks to cover his own African Cup of Nations losses.

Like Marseille, Arsenal will also lose two attacking options to the tournament, with Marouane Chamakh and Gervinho heading to Gabon and Equatorial Guinea.

Anderlecht do not want to part Suarez in mid-season, but with the hitman only under contract with the Belgian giants until 2013, would be open to a substantial bid.
