Liverpool’s Luis Suarez and Sebastian Coates will be available to Brendan Rodgers for the Reds’ season opener at West Brom on the 18th of August.
Uruguay were one of the pre-tournament favourites along with their South American rivals Brazil and European Champions Spain. However, they failed to light up the competition – scoring just twice, in a victory over United Arab Emirates, before falling to defeats against Senegal and Team GB.
Despite the arrival of Fabio Borini at Anfield, Liverpool’s attacking options are running low after the departures of Maxi Rodriguez and Dirk Kuyt. Plus, with Andy Carroll and Craig Bellamy seemingly destined to follow Maxi and Dirk out the exit doors, more onus will be put on Suarez.
Continuously booed throughout Uruguay’s Olympic campaign, Suarez said of the abuse:
With Uruguay dumped out the Games, Liverpool may also press on with a move for the impressive Gaston Ramirez. The Reds have been strongly linked with the Bologna playmaker who is rumoured to be valued at £20m by his current club. Ramirez scored one of his countries goals at the Olympics – a stunning free-kick against the UAE at Old Trafford.

“I think they jeer me and they boo me because they must be scared of facing a player like me. They fear me, but that doesn’t affect me. I’m just hurt because we lost and we are going home. I can take the abuse … but I think it was a total lack of respect from the crowd to boo when we were trying to sing our national anthem. I think those things should not happen.”
