Reds safely through

Liverpool are safely into the Europa League play-offs after a 3-0 win against FC Gomel at Anfield.

Already a goal to the good following last week's first leg in Belarus, the Reds completed the job back on Merseyside thanks to goals from Fabio Borini, Steven Gerrard and Glen Johnson.

Suarez was a surprise starter having only joined up with Brendan Rodgers' squad at the start of the week but the Uruguayan showed no signs of fatigue despite having captained his country in the Olympic Games football tournament.

The 25-year-old was at the heart of all Liverpool's best moves and created their opener on 21, bamboozling the Gomel defence and creating the space for Borini to fire in a first time shot - his first goal for the club.

Steven Gerrard was the next to benefit from Suarez' magic, the former Ajax striker unselfishly squaring the ball for his skipper to finish into an open goal five minutes before the break.

With the tie all but over, Liverpool took their foot off the gas after the break although the crowd - including transfer target Joe Allen - were given something to cheer 20 minutes from time when Johnson fired in a dipping left foot volley from 20-yards to complete the scoring.
