Manchester United goalkeeper Anders Lindegaard has signed a new four-year contract.
The Denmark international was challenging David de Gea as Sir Alex Ferguson's No 1 when he sustained a serious ankle injury in training in January.
He has now regained full fitness and Ferguson expects Lindegaard to stake his claim for the first-team jersey.
"There is healthy competition in the goalkeeping department
which is always good for the team, albeit a headache for me," he said.
"Anders is still relatively young for a goalkeeper and has come
on leaps and bounds since joining us last year."
Lindegaard said he had no hesitation in committing his future to a club he has long yearned to represent.
"There is nowhere in the world I would rather be than right here," he said.
"It's what I have dreamt of all my life and nothing makes me more proud than wearing the Manchester United badge."
