Fabregas admits Barcelona was 'boring' against Bayer Leverkusen

Barcelona midfielder Cesc Fabregas has admitted that the Catalans' gameplan for Tuesday's Champions League round of 16 match away against Bayer Leverkusen was a little boring, but stressed that their cautious approach was the right choice.

The Blaugranas recorded a 3-1 win at the BayArena in the first leg of the tie, and Fabregas was pleased with the final outcome of the encounter.

"Perhaps this kind of play is a bit boring but that’s the kind of play we needed to employ," Fabregas was quoted as saying on the official Barcelona website. "There were reasons we played like we did in the first half: they are a very physical team. They can complicate the whole game with one counterattack but we dominated the situation. We’re very pleased."

Fabregas then responded to recent criticism that Barcelona seems less hungry for success than in recent years, and stressed it is always motivated.

"We’re always excited [to play] even though it can appear otherwise from the outside. The team always has the same level of excitement and the same motivation. The boss won’t let us give up."

Barcelona hosts Bayer Leverkusen in the second leg of the round of 16 encounter on March 7.
