Gonzalo Higuain says he opted to stay with Real Madrid thanks to the influence of coach Jose Mourinho.
The Argentine striker was linked with clubs such as Manchester City, Paris Saint-Germain and Juventus over the past few months, but Higuain has no intention to leave the Santiago Bernabeu any time soon.
"The fact Mourinho talked to me and the support of my family and my team-mates gave me strength to stay on and be optimistic for the coming season," Higuain told reporters.
"This year I'm able to start work at the beginning of the pre-season and I'm really looking forward to it. I feel strong. I'm as excited as the first day I arrived here and looking forward to winning titles.
"I will fight as I fought the first day I arrived. I'm headstrong and I don't regret anything I've done here."
The 24-year-old attacker netted 22 goals in 35 La Liga appearances in 2011/12.
"I had to go to Manchester in a taxi for the trial. I got up at seven in the morning and I came home at nine at night. I was exhausted, I was so tired. I wanted to cry, and kick all the things around me.
"I came home and I wanted to do all that, but I couldn't because my daughter was at home. There were really complicated days, and then things became harder after the punishment."
