Andy Carroll has been told he is not a part of new Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers' immediate plans.
Carroll though insists though he does not want to leave Anfield in a permanent deal and will only consider a loan move - and even then only reluctantly.
Carroll was signed for £35m by previous Anfield boss Kenny Dalglish, but struggled for form and fitness.
He impressed on England duty at Euro 2012, scoring a fine goal in the 3-2 victory over Sweden.
But the arrival of Rodgers from Swansea has left his Liverpool future uncertain.
Sources suggest Rodgers does not see a need for Carroll's old-fashioned centre-forward virtues.
Newcastle have had one offer to take their former striker on loan rejected but remain favourites to secure his signature at least for the coming season.
West Ham and another London Premier League club are also interested in taking Carroll on loan.
