Diego Forlan Edges Towards Internacional Switch

Diego Forlan is poised to end his unhappy spell with Italian giants Inter.

According to El Pais, the Uruguayan striker is in advanced talks with Brazilian side Internacional and could even seal a switch to the South American outfit within the next 48 hours.

Inter are offloading their ageing stars and agreed to terminate the contract of 34-year-old defender Lucio recently; Juventus are expected to snap up the former Bayern Munich man.

Flying full back Maicon is also expected to be leaving the San Siro, with Chelsea or Paris Saint-Germain looking his most likely destinations at present.

Now Forlan, who endured a poor 2011/12 campaign, looks to be heading out of the door.

The Uruguay international was signed last summer from Atletico Madrid after leading the Spanish side to Europa League glory.

He arrived in Italy billed as a replacement for Samuel Eto’o, but scored only two goals in Serie A all season.

Forlan is likely to welcome a switch to Brazil – it has long been one of his ambitions to play football in the country.
