Great Britain coach Stuart Pearce will name his 18-man squad for the Olympics later today.
Pearce has already created a huge amount of debate and controversy by deciding not to select former England captain as one of his three over-age players.
Welsh duo Ryan Giggs and Craig Bellamy and Manchester City defender Micah Richards are understood to be the three older players in the squad.
Other areas of Pearce's party are already known with Birmingham goalkeeper Jack Butland allowed to compete despite spending the last three weeks with England's Euro 2012 squad.
Manchester United midfielder Tom Cleverley has also made it, along with Chelsea duo Daniel Sturridge and Ryan Bertrand.
It is also thought Arsenal and Wales midfielder Aaron Ramsey will be selected, although Tottenham winger Gareth Bale has been ruled out with a back problem.
The Great Britain squad is due to spend a short time at a training camp in Spain before they take on tournament favourites Brazil in a warm-up game at Middlesbrough's Riverside Stadium on 20 July.
They open their campaign against Senegal at Old Trafford six days later, before tackling the United Arab Emirates at Wembley on 29 July and Uruguay in Cardiff on 1 August.
