Redknapp: I've never heard of Ganso

Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp has denied a transfer for Santos starlet Ganso is imminent by refuting any knowledge of the attacking midfielder.

Earlier on Friday, reports had emerged linking the Brazilian to a move to White Hart Lane this transfer window, with his agents rumoured to be in London to agree personal terms.

However, Redknapp has rejected the transfer speculation, even questioning who the 22-year-old was in a press conference ahead of Spurs’ FA Cup match against Cheltenham Town.

Redknapp said: “Ganso? I have never heard of him. I don't know him, where does he play? What position?

“I don't get to Brazil much. We got Sandro from there but other than that, no.”

Club captain Michael Dawson is expected to play his first match in over four months for the north London club while Aaron Lennon is also set to start in the third-round home tie on Saturday.

“It’s great to have Michael coming back, he’s been out quite a while now,” Redknapp said. “He’s worked hard to get back to fitness and is looking forward to playing."

“Aaron looks fine as well, he trained yesterday and he’s ready to play as well, which is great.”

Central midfielders Sandro and Scott Parker have been ruled out of the game, while defender William Gallas is also out of contention for the clash.

“Sandro and William Gallas both have calf injuries, they are definitely not fit,” the boss went on.

“We’re not sure how long they are going to be.

“Scott is not fit either. He took a bad bang on the knee at Swansea. We’ll have to wait and see on that one as well.”

The Spurs boss admitted he plans to field a weakened lineup for the game against the League Two side, insisting his first-team players need a rest after the busy festive period.

“We will change it around,” Redknapp added. “That’s no disrespect to Cheltenham, but we’ve played the same players [over Christmas and New Year] and we can’t keep playing them. We need to use the squad.
