Prandelli eyes Totti for Euros

Italy head coach Cesare Prandelli said Roma striker Francesco Totti could be called up for the Euro 2012 finals.

The Roma captain brought an end to his international career in July 2006, shortly after helping his country win the World Cup in Germany.

"At the end of the season, we will assess the players' physical condition," Prandelli told Tg1 when asked about Totti.

"We started the season with a project: if there were players with great personality and in good shape, they would be taken into consideration."

Totti has made 14 competitive appearances for Roma this season, netting four goals for Luis Enrique's side, who are sixth position in the table.

The 35-year-old made history on Saturday, breaking Gunnar Nordahl's 210-goal record with one Serie A club.

He struck twice in the opening minutes of Roma's 5-1 win over Cesena at the Stadio Olimpico on Saturday.

Totti scored his 211th goal in 486 league appearances for Roma, boasting a strike every 0.43 games, as Roma went three goals ahead within eight minutes of the kick-off.

Former Italy coach Roberto Donadoni attempted to lure Totti out of retirement for Euro 2008 but was unsuccessful.

The Azzurri have been paired with Croatia, Republic of Ireland and Spain in Group C in the showpiece event in Poland and Ukraine.
