Aston Villa boss Alex McLeish is refusing to commit one way or the other over the long-term future at the club of Jean Makoun.
The midfielder was sent out on loan for the season to Greek side Olympiakos in August, and being signed for £5m by McLeish's predecessor Gerard Houllier in less than a year ago.
Reports emerging from Greece are suggesting the club are keen to turn his temporary stay into something more permanent in the summer although that would depend on Villa's valuation of the player.
Makoun, who has only just returned to action again after a spell on the sidelines with a knee ligament injury, may favour that option but the final decision over the former Lyon star's next move will rest with McLeish.
He said: "It depends. The reason for letting Jean out was I looking for a different type of midfielder. I'm not saying he's not got a future, it would be stupid to say that, but certainly I was looking at our midfield without Jean."
