Shanghai still confident of Drogba signing

Chinese club Shanghai Shenhua remain confident they will sign Chelsea striker Didier Drogba during the January transfer window.

Drogba's future at Stamford Bridge has been up for discussion in recent weeks, with player and club so far failing to reach agreement on terms to a new contract that would extend his stay beyond the end of the current season.

Amid all the uncertainty Drogba has received firm interest for the Chinese club, and Shanghai are increasingly hopeful they will be able to reach agreement over a fee with the Blues within the next week.

"Everything is going well so far though there have been a few obstacles. They never turned us down, which is good for us," club board member Zhou Jun told The Shanghai Daily.

Shanghai hope the earlier signing of Nicolas Anelka, completed at the start of January, will persuade Drogba - who has reportedly been offered a lucrative wage packet - that it is the right move to make.

"It's like making a blockbuster film," Zhou added. "When superstars like Jackie Chan, Jet Li and Zhou Xun have confirmed their participation, other actors and actress will be confident of the movie."
