Cahill linked to QPR switch

Everton midfielder Tim Cahill has been named as a potential signing for English Premier League rival Queens Park Rangers, according to British media reports.

Cahill, who has two-and-a-half years remaining on his Everton contract, will be the target of a surprise bid by new Rangers manager Mark Hughes before the January 31 transfer window closes, The Times newspaper reported on Friday.

The 32-year-old Socceroos star joined Everton in 2004 but has battled repeated leg and ankle complaints over the past 12 months and hasn't found the net for his club since December 2010.

The transfer may prove a welcome financial move for the Toffees, who sits 11th on the Premier League ladder, while offering a fresh start for Sydney-born Cahill, who will need to prove his value ahead of Australia's FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign for 2014.

Cahill's former team-mate and now Tottenham midfielder, Steven Pienaar, has also been eyed by Hughes with QPR willing to offer $4.48 million for the South African, The Times wrote.
