Shaqiri attract interest from across Europe

Galatasaray have launched a bid to land Swiss sensation Xherdan Shaqiri.

A host of clubs are chasing the Basel winger, with  Manchester United, Liverpool, Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund and Porto all linked in recent weeks.

But Turkish giants Galatasaray have made the opening move and lodged a €10million offer.

While Basel are not contemplating accepting, the player has admitted he would welcome the chance to move to Istanbul.

"It is now contact, we have received an offer from Istanbul," Basel president Bernhard Heusler confirmed from the Swiss side's winter training camp in Andalucia.

"We have taken note, but this does not mean it is a basis for negotiation.

"We are currently not willing to sell Shaqiri."

Sporting director George Heitz also insisted that they were not looking to sell - insisting there was interest from Germany and Britain.

"Of course you never know what might happen, I am asked about three or four of our players.

"Clubs from Germany, Britain and Eastern Europe are asking and we have had offers.

"But we are in the next round of the Champions League and that is our main aim at the moment."

Gala, though, are hopeful of pushing through a deal and the player is seemingly open to the move.

"I have always admired Galatasaray," he said.

"They are a top club and Fatih Terim is a great coach.

"If such an offer is there you have to look and even though I really do not want to go to Turkey, I cannot exlude anything."

Shaqiri's quotes came after Terim revealed he wanted the 20-year-old.

"Of course I want Shaqiri. We have been interested since July, but this time we're serious and are currently negotiating with him," he told reporters.

The club's president Unal Aysal also confirmed that negotiations are taking place.

"I haven't met Shaqiri myself, however, I gave the club representatives the go-ahead and they are currently involved in negotiations with Shaqri," he revealed.
